Winemakers from other parts of the world recently converged on Georgia’s capital Tbilisi to compete in the Saperavi World Prize 2017. Saperavi winemakers from Australia, the United States and Kazakhstan were all declared the winners.

The Saperavi grape variety is one of the most famous grapes of Georgia. The contest, which was the result of a joint project organized by Hvino and the International Chamber of Commerce set out to award the best Saperavi wines made by winemakers from all over the world.

The Grand Gold Award was given to Australia’s Cirami Estate 2015 Saperavi. The Grand Silver Award was given to the US-based McGregor Vineyard’s Black Russian Red 2010 Saperavi. Finally, the Grand Bronze Award was received by Kazakhstan’s Lagyl Arba Saperavi 2013.

The Saperavi wines produced in all these countries were judged in Georgia by an international panel of judges comprised of top experts involved in Saperavi winemaking.
